Geno 2.0 R2 Tests

The Geno web site now shows terminal SNPs for the 21 R2 results on the "Our Story" page for testers:

R-L295 16 individuals

R-F1092 3 individuals

R-F1253 2 individuals

My cousin is positive for R-F1092 and negative for R-L295 (ISOGG R2a1) and R-F1253 (ISOGG unknown). Also negative for R-L288. The Geno 2.0 chip apparently does not test for R-L263 (ISOGG R2a2) or R-L1069 (ISOGG R2a3). I believe that Nat Geo and FTDNA are releasing some kind of updated haplotree in February. If anyone knows who the other two R-F1092 positive testers might be, I would be interested to know who they are or what their ancestry is. My cousin's 111 marker STR results are due back from FTDNA in a few weeks.

I will go out on a limb and suggest that R-F1092 might be a new Eastern European Jewish subclade under R2a. Whether there would be enough genetic distance between people found to be R-F1092 to make it onto the ISOGG tree as a subclade remains to be seen. That's why I would like to find out who the other two R-F1092 testers are.

It would be nice to find out how these new F-series SNPs fit on the ISOGG tree. I'm guessing most are equivalent to R2 or R2a, but apparently F1253 and F1092 are below R2a. I am cross-posting here and on the molgen forum, hoping to stir up some renewed R2 interest.

The first 12 STR markers are back from FTDNA. The rest of the 111 are coming later. My cousin is a 12 STR exact match for

N32154    Bender        R2    14    23    14    10    13-19    12    12    11    14    10    29    
N65466    Vasiliev       R2    14    23    14    10    13-19    12    12    11    14    10    29

This makes him part of the large Eastern Europe R2 group. Somewhat interesting that he is DYS385 13-19 and not 13-20 that the majority in this group have.

This is also an exact 12-12 match with Eshaghpo (hey, we are related  ).

So, I think it makes sense for those three exact 12-12 matches (and some non-exact matches in the group) to to consider testing F1092 when that SNP is made available to FTDNA customers. So far, it is not listed as available. I wonder if we have to request a primer be made for this or whether it will show up in due course. Since it is a defined terminal SNP in Geno 2.0 land with at least three positive testers, I guess it might show up on a new tree and be made available at some point in the future.

Any way we can convince you to test more STR markers (like 67 or 111)? Might help to confirm ties to Iran/Iraq Jews of which you are the prime example. Expensive, but will help our exploration of origins for the cluster.

@ Seferhabahir right now my wife would kill me if I paid more for an upgrade.  I did contribute to SNP campaign a while back.  Dentate was toying with upgrading my results a few years ago.  I would be more in favor of testing a specific SNP at this point.

Thanks for sharing such great information. I have already taken the test and waiting for the results.  It is on stage 3 so far. I will share my results as soon as I get them.

In order to get the these new SNPs published to the ISOGG, we need to have several individuals with Haplogroup R2 to take the Geno 2.0 test and share their data which satisfy the ISOGG listing criteria. I can do the analysis and send it to ISOGG once we have the needed data.

So whoever can afford the test, please go ahead and order it so we can help our little Haplogroup R2 tree to grow more leaves

Cost for Geno 2.0 is $199.95 shippable to U.S. and many international countries. It is now the de facto replacement for FTDNA "deep clade" testing. For R2 people, it may be the best bet unless some of the new SNPs become available from FTDNA at $$39 a pop. For some haplogroups, it may be possible to narrow in on specific relevant SNPs. At some point, the Geno chip may be updated to include even more SNPs, but since it looks like there are quite a few new PF and F series SNPs on the existing chip, it is probably useful for people who can afford the cost.
